Hi friends. This is my second post for today.
I was very excited to win a spot in the new Online card class: Pattern Play from Laura Bassen's blog. Thank you Laura. This is my very first online class and I am very excited to learn more about using all the patterned paper that I have collected over the years. I tend to hoard it. :)
Today's class had some amazing tips on picking your patterned paper, combining patterns, etc. There was a lot to digest today. I was inspired by Jennifer's heart cards and wanted to try out her techniques. She showed 4 today but I chose the two that I liked best. :)
For my first card I popped each hexagon up on dimensional adhesive but first die cut an identical shape from white cardstock. This creates a nice white "shadow" under the patterned die cut. Hard to capture in a photo.
For my second card I created a mat for each of my shapes by tracing the outer edge of the die onto a piece of cardstock and cut the shape by hand. I love that Jennifer said if someone says something about your fussy cutting to kick them in the shin, take your card and run and never give them a card again. haha
These papers were all from one pack and I am not sure how well they worked together for this but I am still learning. :) Thank you for visiting and have a great day!
Cardstock: White, Breeze paper pack (MME)
Ink: Basic Gray
Stamps: You said it, Sister (FSS)
Accessories: Hexagon framelits dies, Banner trio die (Wplus9), dimensionals
Great colors together. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteVery nice cards! I like the color combo and the way you matted each layer. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOh these are gorgeous! I'm signed up for the class...thinking I need to stay late at work to watch the videos...don't tell! :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I think I will sign up for this class :) x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cards. Those two techniques are my favorites too.
ReplyDeleteI think they work brilliantly the way you've put them together, Kristie, particularly the one with white shadows ... love it! Anita :)

ReplyDeleteHi Kristie,
ReplyDeleteSo happy that you are in the class and already loving it. Congratulation on winning your spot. You're already off to a great start and I'll bet that once you finish this class, you'll be back again.
I have happily been a student in all of the classes that Kristina and Jennifer has hosted and they have ALL been fabulous. I highly recommend them and you can also go back and taken any of the previous classes at any time.
Welcome to the Classroom...and thanks for visiting my blog!!
Lisa
These look fab, the class sounds very interesting. Might have to give it a go
ReplyDeleteCongrats Kristie! That is so awesome that you won a spot into the online card class! I love these cards, the colors are stunning.
ReplyDeleteI think your cards are beautiful - well done. I love these classes. I have such a hard time using patterned papaer and I love it, so I am really enjoying this one too.
ReplyDeleteI'm in the class, too, Kristie. I thought it would motivate me after being away from card making for two months. I went an entirely different way with my card (I don't have dies) but used a lot of the techniques. Yours turned out great! I wonder what tomorrow holds.
ReplyDeleteLove the yellow and grey - one of my favorite color combos. Love the hexagons.
ReplyDeleteGood for you--you did your homework. I like both of those cards--I see that you are very into hexagons, and that is a great shape to work with. I am a bit behind, and it is only day 1, but I am pleased that I at least watched all those videos.
ReplyDeleteYou did an awesome job with your pattern papers! Can't wait to see more of you homework!!
ReplyDeleteYou did a beautiful job on these cards! That technique works really well with your paper :)
ReplyDeleteI love the papers you chose. Great cards.
ReplyDeleteLucky you to win that class, congrats! I love how you mixed the papers here! Great cards, both are so happy!
ReplyDeleteTwo fabulous cards Kristie and i'm so delighted you won a place in the class!! (isn't the Lord good :) :) ) x
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! You inspired me to use hexagons for one as well!! :-) Thanks for the great inspiration!
ReplyDeleteGreat color combinations, the hexagons are great! I am glad you won this class - you really are making the best of it - I am going backwards in your blog - amazing work!
ReplyDeleteGreat card, I am curious about your die.
ReplyDeleteI found framelites, to be a bit fragile, whenever, I am handling I always feel like they might bend.
How do you handle them?
